CALEB'S Story

Just after his first birthday in Uganda, Caleb and his parents received difficult news: a diagnosis of metopic craniosynostosis. The bones in Caleb’s skull had joined together too early – before his brain was fully formed. As a result, his skull was becoming misshapen.

Right after his adoption, Caleb and his parents received difficult news: a diagnosis of metopic craniosynostosis. The bones in Caleb’s skull had joined together too early – before his brain was fully formed. As a result, his skull was becoming misshapen.

Caleb’s parents recently took him to a hospital in the Ugandan capital, Kampala. There, the doctor’s report noted that, if left untreated, Caleb would experience increased intracranial pressure, impeding healthy brain growth.

Typically, Caleb’s neurological condition is best treated surgically before the first birthday. Now, having passed that point, he needs help as soon as possible.

Caleb’s parents hope he can receive care in the United States, where doctors have more experience and success in treating their son’s serious condition. JHI is working with them to help make this care possible.

JHI is currently working with two neurosurgeons from Boston and Texas to bring Caleb here for treatment. Caleb got his American visa two weeks ago. Let’s work together to make this happen.
