JHI is excited to share that our founder and executive director, Alex Gitungano, will be returning to the Boston Marathon for the third time in support of JHI’s mission.
Despite the snow, Alex has started the months of training that take discipline and meticulous training. We run for the twins who are fighting hard towards their final separation; for Moses who completed his treatment plan and returned to Zambia ready to build a healthy life; and for Valentine who will soon know what it is to walk to school on newly healthy legs. Every mile is anchored in something greater.
JHI has been truly humbled by the addition of 4 runners who have taken on our mission.
Meet Team JHI: Boston 2026
This year, Alex runs alongside an incredible team. Each member of Team JHI carries a deeply personal reason for running:
Hannah has dreamed of running Boston since first spectating in 2022. A social worker by profession, she is passionate about expanding access to safe, affordable care for vulnerable communities. Running for JHI allows her to extend that commitment to children and families globally.
Max runs in honor of his late mother, Susan Hurley—a devoted charity leader and tireless advocate. Supporting JHI continues her legacy of compassion and action.
James runs alongside his best friend Max to honor Susan’s life and the cause she championed. For him, this race is both tribute and commitment.
Together, we’re lacing up not just for a finish line, but for children waiting for critical care.
We also have one additional bib available. If you—or someone you know—would like to run the Boston Marathon as part of Team JHI, we would love to connect. It would be a gift to form our largest team yet and run united for this mission.
