Journey of Healing: Simplisa

Long-time JHI patient Simplisa continues her treatment of rare skin condition in Chicago. JHI remains committed to supporting the Burundi native and her family on their path to a healthier future.

Before and After Picture of JHI Patient Simplisa

We’re thrilled to share an inspiring update on Simplisa, a brave young girl from Burundi who has been living with a giant congenital nevus—a painful and rare condition that has covered much of her back since birth.

Treatment supported by JHI has helped reduce 40% of her condition

Thanks to your incredible support and the expert medical care she’s received, Simplisa has already completed a successful tissue expander procedure. This critical step has reduced more than 40% of her nevus, bringing her much-needed relief from the daily discomfort caused by the bumpy, sensitive texture on her back.

Her journey isn’t over yet, but the progress is deeply encouraging. Simplisa is scheduled to return to Chicago on June 2nd for the next round of tissue expanders—another vital phase in her treatment. With each procedure, she moves closer to healing, to freedom from pain, and to the bright, healthy future she deserves.

We invite you to continue standing with Simplisa and her mother, Sandrine, as they face the next stage of this journey with unwavering courage and hope.

Stories like Simplisa’s are why JHI exists—to provide life-changing care to children who need it most. Thank you for being part of this mission.
