A Surprise During the Twin's Third Surgery

A Tender Update on Our Brave Twins

The twins have successfully undergone their third surgery. We’re thankful to share that the surgery went well. However, there was an unexpected discovery—some areas of the girls’ brain cortices were connected, making the separation more complex than originally anticipated. This news was a surprise to all of us and a sobering reminder of just how delicate and intricate this path is.

The surgical team made a “U”-shaped incision from the back to the front of their heads—on the right side for Mariem and the left for Fati. Fati has some swelling around her right eye, but we’re optimistic that it will soon subside. The surgery got off to a later start than expected, as the medical team took extra time to carefully position the girls and complete a thorough MRI. The procedure itself concluded around 10 PM, and we were finally able to see their sweet faces again at around 11 PM.

Fati is currently doing quite well—she has bounced back with remarkable strength and resilience. Mariem, however, is facing a more difficult stretch. She has been in a lot of pain, often crying and appearing very uncomfortable and fussy. Her belly became distended from constipation, and although she has passed some stool, the medical team decided to place a nasal feeding tube to help relieve the pressure and provide vital nutrition, as she has not been eating well. In addition, the surgeon drained some fluid from her head to alleviate discomfort.

Their recovery will take time, but our hope remains unwavering. These girls are incredibly resilient, and we trust in God’s healing, the brilliance of their caregivers, and the strength they’ve shown from the very beginning.

Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts, for continuing to walk this journey with us. Your encouragement is a constant source of strength.
